So the Mormons just finished the new temple in Helena, Montana, they’re in final stages of the one in Moses Lake, Washington and they are off to Springfield, Oregon to start a new one. They desperately attempt to politicize these projects with quotes like the following from the fourth president of the church in which it is claimed they heard from the spirits of signers of the Declaration of Independence. The church believes they can get non-Mormons into heaven through proxy baptism in their temples.
"[T]he spirits of the dead gathered around me, wanting to know why we did not redeem them. Said they, '…We laid the foundation of the government you now enjoy, and we never apostatized from it, but we remained true to it and were faithful to God.' These were the signers of the Declaration of Independence."
—Wilford Woodruff
Communication with the dead is condemned in the bible and there is no reference of Jesus doing proxy baptisms in the gospels.
